FNA222, Kiln Casting and Pâte de Verre, Tuesdays and Thursdays, July
5th-August 8th, 10:00am-3:30pm
New for Summer 2017! Kiln-Casting and Pâte de Verre focuses on a variety of
glass kiln-casting techniques. The techniques to be covered will include
some or all of the following: rubber mold making, wax working, traditional
pate de verre casting, hollow-form frit casting, lost wax frit casting,
ingot casting, and/or drip casting. All of the processes will be introduced
through demonstrations performed by the instructor, lectures, hand-outs, and
other support materials. Topics include kiln composition, kiln set-up, types
of glass, compatibility, mold-making processes and materials, incorporation
of non-glass materials, firing and annealing theory, computer controller
usage, and finishing / presentation techniques and options.
Students will have ample open studio time, outside of class time, Monday
through Thursday to work in the studio.
