Mobile Glassblowing Hot Art Studio a brief description
A multi-chambered hot art studio, comprising in combination, a melting furnace of 30Kg capacity, a glory hole with multiple doors, a hot box, pipe/punty warmer, hot marver & annealing kiln 8 cu ft.
The furnace & glory hole are directly heated by one 1 ½” burner & the rest of the equipment is wholly or primarily heated by the waste exhaust heat from the burner, there is a patent pending on the new technology developed to make the system work,
the annealer has 20 amp 240V single phase power for accurate temperature control, (the same power as a kitchen stove) The unit costs approximately $30/day to run for gas & electricity.
During the “working cycle” the small glory hole door can be left open with no appreciable heat loss, due to the exhaust being used to heat the rest of the equipment.
This neutral pressure differential at the doors (no dragons breath) also makes the working area cooler & safer, & the economy of the unit makes it environmentally friendly, no heat shield is required while using the glory hole,
and there has never been the need for a pipe cooler (normally used after a furnace gather), thereby increasing the production cycle.
The studio has been tested for a number of years, & a production model has been designed so that six units will fit in a 20’ container.
Harvey Littleton can be considered the father of the current studio art glass movement; he only reduced the size of the industrial equipment then being used.
I believe I have taken the next step or even quantum leap in that journey.
The mobile studios can be run from the home garage, fired up in a day, used for as long as required & wheeled into a corner when not in use.
They can be used for metal casting & other hot art activities.
The studio is extremely economical compared to prior art equipment & much more comfortable & easier to use.
The units themselves are inexpensive & simple to construct, & can be easily altered to specific requirements.
